Big Sister of the Quarter

We are pleased to honor Janet Mariani as Big Sister of the Quarter. Jan became an official Big Sister on August 18, 2005 when she was matched with her Little Sister, Alyssa.  Since becoming matched, Jan has been a continuous support system in Alyssa’s life. She has shown dedication and commitment towards leading Alyssa on her true path in life. Jan and Alyssa enjoy exploring the outdoors – especially the beach, as well as, visiting the Roger Williams Park Zoo and Mystic Aquarium. Congratulations, Jan! We are in need of Big Sisters in Newport County Please contact Mandy Boragine, Newport County/East Bay Program Coordinator at 921-2434 x108 if you know of someone who might be interested in becoming a Big Sister in that area.

Hermana a Hermana Program

Big Sister, Maggie Picot, recently spoke at the opening reception and multicultural exhibit at the Jonhson & Wales Multicultural Center to kick- off our new Program, Hermana a Hermana (Sister to Sister). Maggie spoke about her experience as a Big Sister volunteer and shared a poem that she had written especially for the occasion. Programa de Hermana a Hermana will pair Latina girls between  the ages of 7 and 15 with Big Sisters volunteer. this program will re-place and extend the catchment area of the Uno a Uno Program to statewide.

2008 Big Sister of the Year

Celeste Campos of Portsmouth was named Big Sister of the Year by Big Sisters of Rhode Island on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the agency’s annual Heart to Heart volunteer recognition event. Celeste (center) is pictured here with her Little Sister Kassandra (right) and Mary Capobianco (left), Executive Director of Big Sisters of Rhode Island. Celeste and Kassandra were matched in October 2004.
